NGC Hosts District 7 Spring Meeting

Leaders Share Successes, Ideas and "Doing Good"

Nottingham Garden Club recently hosted the Garden Club of New Jersey District 7 Spring Business meeting at Switlik Club House in Yardville.

Nottingham Garden Club President Jay said, “It’s beneficial to all the clubs of District 7 to attend these meetings. Each garden club president or representative gets to share their community programs and how we all support state garden club initiatives.”

Garden Club of New Jersey President Sue Berdahl (right) attended the meeting as did presidents and board members from Mercer and Burlington Counties garden clubs within the district.

District 7 Director Trish Polunas (left), organized the meeting and led the attendees through the program.

Program speaker Iliana Okum, a Rosarian and member of both the American Rose Society and West Trenton Garden Club, presented “Tips on Rose Maintenance and Companions in the Garden.” She also shared tips on caring for cut roses, which is included as a blog on this website.

Discussion included incoming garden club presidents introducing themselves and the upcoming GCNJ annual meeting and awards on June 3rd.

Attending garden clubs shared some of their successful yearly projects, including activities for the 250th birthday of the United States and growing their memberships.

Also mentioned was the September New Presidents meeting at the Garden Club of New Jersey headquarters, the Holly House, in New Brunswick .

Club leaders commented on the value of these meetings where ideas and the varied experiences of District 7 clubs help shape other clubs' activities.

Funding local youth programs and encouraging youth to become active in gardening were part of the overall work of the garden clubs at the meeting.

The Nottingham Garden Club was excited to host the District 7 meeting. Thanks goes to the Hospitality Committee who prepared and served lunch with warm hospitality to all who attended and to other club members for a collaborative effort including Nick, who chaired the effort, Joe, Elaine B., Elaine G., Charlene, Esther, Kathi, Maria, and Cathy W.
